When our special needs son Andrew first began using an iPad, my husband and I wondered how we would be able to keep such a delicate piece of technology safe in the hands of our over exuberant firstborn.
Thank goodness for the internet! Prior to the iPad arriving, I spent some time in search of the perfect case. I knew we didn’t want anything bulky or hard; the idea was the keep the iPad safe while making sure Andrew was still able to carry it around and use it functionally. Given his severely delayed fine and gross motor skills, as well as overall strength, we knew we wanted something soft and durable that would protect the iPad and Andrew as well.
It wasn’t long before I stumbled upon a case that immediately grabbed my attention: The Big Grips Frame by Kem Ventures, Inc.
I loved the vibrant colors and the description of the product on the Big Grips website sealed the deal:
“Big Grips Frame™ is the iPad case made for kids. It’s big, squishy, easy to grab, comfortable to hold, and very grip-able. Big Grips Stand™ is a matching stand for working at a desk or lying on the couch kicking back and watching stuff. Safe, Secure, and Squishy. Yep. Squishy. As in soft, squishy, easy to grab foam. That means fewer slips, drops, and tumbles—and plenty of cushion just in case.
Big Grips Frame is not only secure and very grip-able, it’s also…
- BPA, lead and latex-free
- Phthalate and PVC free
- Resistant to oils, chemicals, stains, molds and germs
- Durable and lightweight
- Easy to clean
The idea of Andrew having a “squishy” frame for his iPad rather than a hard, bulky, heavy case appealed to me. I purchased the iPad 2 frame in a bright green and got a stand as well, so that he could perch his iPad on the kitchen table or desk.
I’d love to tell you that Andrew has never dropped or thrown his iPad but that would be a ginormous lie. I am happy to report, however, that each time Andrew’s iPad comes crashing down, it bounces right back up, landing safely on the Big Grips Frame! This thing is AMAZING!
Wherever we go, someone makes a comment about Andrew’s iPad frame. Lots of oohs and ahhs and even grown-ups want to feel the squishy case! I had a woman purchase one right in front of me from her smartphone after asking me the name of the frame! I’ve probably referred hundreds of new customers to Big Grips over the years and today, they’re letting me do a fabulous Back-to-School Giveaway!
